Am ready to start making the curtains for Erics room, will do one at a time then buy more material as its expensive to buy. I really dont know what I am doing so am procrastinating. I did practice my sewing and make a doily to put on top of his cupboard to protect it from his cd player- it looks good, the stitching is almost perfectly strait
28 October 2008 - 6:33am — Nick
Well I have finished painting the cupboard- took 3 coats to do the inside and when its dry i will check to see if it needs a 4th- i hope not.
I have measured and cut the material for the doors, was going to do those today as well but Eric woke up and cant be crafty with him around. Hopefully by the end of the week it will be all done and in his room.
27 October 2008 - 5:34am — Nick
Well I started my next big project today. I had an old cupboard from when I was about 16, it has been mistreated for so many years now (spent the last 2 being used as a tool cupboard at my sisters) so was not in the best shape- nothing a bit of TLC cant fix
So off came the doors and I have done the sanding and the first coat of paint. Had to do the inside as well as it was just bear chipboard which had been stained over the years and had a burned on smily face on the top (from my party days i suspect lol).
The next job is to do the second coat on the outside and inside then work on the doors. I will be covering them in the "Thomas the tank engine" material which are on his draws. On theinside of the doors i will be using some moulding to tidy up the staples and on one door using blackboard paint and am thinking the other a corkboard to pin his fav pics on when he is older- just a thought so far.
So thats the second project for Erics room. When i can afford to i will buy the necessary bits to make his quilt and curtains- should be finished in his room then

today i made my first thing on my sewing machine. its what i call my "Budget wallet" Its large enough for 6 pockets to hold the money for each item- Food, Fuel, Phone ect ect. This way I am only alowed to spend what is in THAT pocket and not steal from peter to pay paul (what i always end up doing).
I even managed to make a button hole with complete success! Am very proud of my efforts even though some of the stitching is a bit wonky lol

I remember when my 3 were little, I used to make all there clothes and quilt/doona covers. I was quite good at making pillowcases as well.

Button holes were never my strong point Nick so I can offer no help on that score.
Mine never really worked out that well. *lol*
I used to be really good at making little boys' shorts/ boardshorts once upon a time long, long ago.
I hated shirt collars though as I always ran into trouble with them and then there were the zips. Thank goodness for velcro is all I can say. hahaha!!

A few mistakes along the way make us much better in the long run.

I brought a sewing machine on Sunday and today had a lesson on how to use it. I went through all the stitches, tention and how to do a button hole, now i just need to learn to sew in a strait line, was a bit zigzaggy today lol. Need to learn so i can make Erics doona cover and his curtains for Christmas- thankfully neither need buttons, the ones i did today did not look like button holes lol.

I had so much fun yesterday making a placemat for Eric to use at playgroup for morning tea. I put a baby photo on it of him with little stickers that remind me of him then i took it down to the shops to laminate. It looks so cute
I will now be working on christmas paper. Decided this year to have some fun with it instead of just buying boring rolls from the shops. I have hundreds of sheets of butchers paper so am going to lye them down outside and let Eric go mad with paint, he can walk in it or use his hands, mush it, splash it- whatever he wants! will make great paper and also give me some memeroble photoes of the fun day, just waiting for a warm day so he can run around without his clothes on
Will have a few more craft ideas soon
29 September 2008 - 11:31am — KattenI have just not have time to post much lately but I will try and get at least a couple more craft ideas up here on the weekend.
Christmas is fast approaching and unless we start making our gifts we will miss the santa sleigh.
A Kilo of Fat
29 September 2008 - 11:28am — KattenI got this in email and thought I would share. It is just so true for most of us isn't it.
Hello, do you know me?
If you don't, you should. I'm a kilo of fat,
And I'm the HAPPIEST kilo of fat that you would ever want to meet.
Want to know why?
It's because no one ever wants to lose me;
I'm ONLY ONE KILO, just a pound!
Everyone wants to lose three kilos, five kilos, or fifteen kilos, but never only one.
So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.
Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it.
That is, until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more kilos in weight.
Yes, it's fun being ONLY ONE KILO OF FAT, left to do as I please.
So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one kilo."
(As if that were such a terrible thing.)
For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.
And, I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.
Happy Days!!!
After all, I'm ONLY ONE KILO OF FAT!!!
craft puff paint for children
26 September 2008 - 3:24am — KattenThis is a craft idea that I read about in one of the magazines this week and I thought it might be worth sharing for all of those who have little ones' to amuse during holiday periods.
Puff Paint
In a bowl combine the following.
1 tablespoon self raising flour
add a few drops of food colouring
1 tablespoon salt and enough water to make a smooth paste.
Paint your design on a thick sheet of cardboard or craft paper. Microwave on high for 10 - 30 seconds depending on your microwave. Leave it long enough for the paint to puff -- you design should have risen tio make a 3D effect.
Now your child has a masterpiece to give to Grandma or Poppy.
I will take a pic or two over the weekend when the children are experimenting with this so you can see what it looks like.
